Mandala training is amazing! But, my goodness is it the hardest training I’ve ever done. It’s physically exhausting and with so many moments of inversions and tricky transitions! I am by no means anywhere near average ability in the class, I have so much respect for this room full of yogis who can just crack into a chin stand, pincha and handstand during a practice like it was no big deal. Effortlessness really takes a lot of grit and effort to get there!
So on Wednesday I fell twice. I’m pretty sure I’m the only person to fall so far. Once was attempting this pose and completely fell arse over face and landed on someone else’s mat 😱amazingly not hitting the inverted yogi mat owner on my way down. I was embarrassed and the least I could do was whisper “I’m so glad I didn’t hit into you” and whilst still in an inversion(!) she’s responds “don’t worry!”. Yoga teachers hey?
This is not me holding this for more than a second. I’m trying to work out how to really split my legs for balance but I’m not there with my leading leg yet! My insta stories has a breakdown of me basically falling down.
Have a great Friday!
Earth, grounded. Sacred geometry.
How do you want to walk the earth?
How do you want to leave the earth?
The ground. The self. The sky.
Fold and ground to the earth.
Light a match in the belly.
Engage your ribs, release the hamstrings.
Whispered profanities. Sweat burning the eyes.
Burning resin and chants to cleanse the spirit and the room.
Meridians. Chakras. The elements. The sun and the moon. Feminine and masculine. Discipline.
What is your primary question? 🤯
#MandalaMethodology teacher training.

Plough pose. Two variations for you here. Toes might not tough the mat, and that’s okay! Send the heels to the back of the room and breathe, the lengthening of the hip flexors and hamstrings will happen over time.
What a beautiful day today! So much energy in the room of both morning classes. Halasana is one of the poses said to help clear the third eye chakra/meridian which will be what we’ll be covering today in Slow Jams at 4:30pm.
See you there! 👁 ✨

Feathered peacock pose or forearm stand.
Before marriage and baby, I would practice this daily, then I did my yoga teacher training and got even stronger, then I had a baby and all my core left me. Finally. Finally after slow work and practice I was able to demonstrate a full pincha in front of my power class today. It’s taken a really long time to get back here! But as they say, with patience comes practice...and a little bit of progress.
After teaching two classes I was too tired to capture both legs up for you, but I’ve provided a little breakdown of getting into this posture in my stories.
Have a lovely Sunday!

Ramila, is still on her amazing holiday in South East Asia (here she is in Cambodia…I know I’m jealous too!) but she will be hosting our Meditation workshop this May the 25th.
In this 2 hour workshop focusing on meditation and breath, where you can rest, reset and take a wonderful immersion. Meditation is the art of looking inside and discovering one’s own inner being. It leads us not only to totally new inner experiences, but helps us also to transform our day-to-day life into a better, more meaningful and more fulfilling existence.
Book via the website!

On Monday’s at 7pm we do meditation. Lead by our senior teacher Ramila Patel (@ramilapatelyoga) the class has been gathering a little solid group of meditators now and it’s wonderful to see the serenity as they leave the class.
Ramila is on a well deserved break so I’m covering her next few classes. And having just listened to BBC Sounds’ “Forest 404” I’m going to immerse everyone in ASMR forest soundscapes and do forest visualisation meditation. Listen to it, it’s a great sci-fi dystopian romp.

Headstand. The king of poses according to B.K.S Iyengar. Some of the benefits sound quite dubious to me (“natural remedy for hair loss” for example) but it is meant to clear the mind as well as increase focus.
Definitely the later for me today when I tried this tripod variation I’ve been seeing doing the rounds here on insta. I didn’t even do the “complete” expression with the forearms glued into that central line. Proving to me once more that it’s not only quite a skill to do these variations, but also rather difficult to do on your own with a self timer!
Join me later on today for some yin-yang style “Slow Jams” at 4:30pm
Have a wonderful day.

Someone once said to me that the birth of a first child also births a mother. How true that is.

Celibate’s pose or in gymnastic terms the “L-Sit”. In Power Yoga I’m really keen to point out that “fancy” Instagram yoga poses aren’t a requirement, everything starts with building blocks and everything starts in the core. We often cover arm balances in this class and sometimes we use props to help, I really like to foster an environment where people can have a play and see if small shifts and adjustments work.
But today, everyone (myself included) found some height and lift with both legs in this pose! Which is so wonderful to see because when I first started teaching this pose even I could only lift one leg. It may have only been for a second or two. But in that one moment we were all there - I beamed for us all. Building blocks.

Workshops! New things! So rather excitedly we’ll be offering workshops on the last Saturday of each month. Starting this month!
Saturday 30th of March 2-4pm:
Yoga for Runners £25
As someone who has done a lot of running in the past (Trail running! Half Marathons! Full Marathons!) I understand the importance of looking after the legs and joints when you run.
In this 2 hour workshop we will focus on relieving the lower body with a 90 mins of dynamically focused yoga followed with half an hour of slow long restorative/yin style stretches with props to really target the ligaments and facia.
Details to book on the website. Book if you run or tag a running friend! ✨

Forbes has published a really interesting article on the science of meditation. It genuinely changes your brain! “meditation and mindfulness training have accumulated some impressive evidence, suggesting that the practices can change not only the structure and function of the brain, but also our behavior and moment-to-moment experience.” Full article is linked on our Facebook page.
You can try some of the more meditative classes that we have to offer.

Sometimes I might loosely plan a class around a chakra. I don’t stay too long or go too detailed into the subject as I know a lot of my students start to feel a bit lost when concepts of the spiritual side of yoga get mentioned. And that’s okay! Everyone comes to yoga for a different reason. I certainly started coming to it from a bodywork perspective.
However I’ve just had a new private client request Chakra Yoga. So now my lesson planning has turned into a spirituality deep dive.
