This Friday the 23rd of Aug at 7:30pm we will be hosting a Kirtan. £12
In this event we explore the yoga of sound with a Kirtan lead by the lovely performer Jyoti Kirpalani.
Kirtan is a form of meditation using sacred sounds and word formulas. The word Kirtan has Vedic roots and it means "telling, narrating, describing”. It is a part of Bhakti Yoga or the yoga of devotion. Devotion means different things to different people. That might be God, nature, a religion or any practise that is sacred to you. Kirtan and chanting goes beyond all this and is a universal practice.
Chanting unifies those who share their sounds, creates internal peace, confidence and joy. It soothes restless minds, promotes clarity of focus and helps dissolve anger and anxiety. You don’t need to be a good singer to chant. This is not about giving a performance.

This month our Community Yoga class will be an exploration of the Kundalini Yoga practice - lead by Stefania.
What is Kundalini Yoga? It’s an uplifting blend of spiritual and physical practices, incorporating movement, dynamic breathing techniques, meditation, and the chanting of mantras, such as Sat Nam, meaning "truth is my identity." The goal is to build physical vitality and increase consciousness.
Every Wednesday this August at 6:15pm for £5.
As always, this is an entirely charity funds raising class. With all sales going towards Lola’s Homeless here in Newham. Do yoga, pay it forward.

Yin. The exploration of Meditation last month and the Earth Mandala workshop has lead to a few of you requesting more Yin so I’ve listened and we’re changing Monday’s format to include those longer mind quieting poses. Ramila will guide you through 30 minutes of Yin followed by Meditation in our new and improved Monday offering “Yin + Meditation”. As it’s a new class and I’d like to encourage you all to have a go at quieting the mind we’ll continue running this class at half price so for those with a 5 Class Pass you can take this class twice.

Every month we run a 5 Week Baby Massage Course. Here’s adorable little Aisha after enjoying her session today.
You’ll learn how to massage, bond, laugh, sing and soothe your little one. It’s a sequence that’s approved by the British Midwives Association and is something I personally loved doing with my son when I did the Chinese month of Confinement (the sitting month) after he was born.
Our next course starts on August the 21st at 11am and is suitable from birth onwards. Book online or contact us for more info.

Or Dragonfly Pose. Or in Sanskrit Maksikanagasana.
We had a little breakdown of this pose today in Power this morning, everyone had a go. I really enjoy breaking more complex asanas into smaller component parts, each of them take a little time and adjustment and eventually with time you may turn a corner and move onto the next.
I didn’t start my yoga journey being able to do these, we all have to start at the beginning somewhere.
This posture combines a deep twist with a hip opener, so be sure that your body is warm before you try it.

Looking forward to teaching my Earth Mandala workshop today, let’s connect with our sense of stability and grounding. But first, let me connect with my water element. #waterbaby

Monday mornings at 11am. The first half an hour is for you! Exercises for mums (or dads!) with babies watching you make yoga shapes. The following half an hour is all about the little yogis: songs, movement and adapted yoga moves with them.
This was the first class I taught coming out of maternity leave and my son was my demo baby. I miss teaching with him but me and my demo baby “Bob” will guide you through the baby bits.
I met a new baby yogi from a mum that I taught pregnancy yoga to this morning, such a joy! Show me all your babies 🥰

I had a pregnant student go into labour today, and she asked me if I could do a private yoga session during her early stages of labour.
It was an absolute honour to be asked.
I packed all the blankets, bolsters and props needed and went to her house. It was an incredible one and a half hours of breathing, movement, and contractions. There were tears, nerves, laughter. You could sense in the room when the contractions were happening and I would get goosebumps whilst I was teaching.
My student also has a three year old little girl who came in and out of the room where we were practicing in to sometimes cuddle her mummy or copy our yoga moves.
We finished the class with a sung sutra from me over a singing bowl, and she sat next to her mummy crossed legged and closed the class alongside us with an “Om”. That image was so beautiful that I cried. The love of mother and daughter all gathered for the journey and arrival of baby brother.
What a privilege it is to walk this path with women.

I’m so excited to bring you my first official Mandala class to the studio! The practice is challenging but very balanced as it’s partnered with meditation and Yin yoga. Personally as a student of this practice I found it very inspiring and transformative.
Working with body and breathe, we will explore and move fluidly and intuitively ‘draw’ a mandala on our yoga mats in all 360 degrees. In this element we will focus on our hamstrings and sense of grounding.
The class will start with meditation and Yin yoga, consist of a strong dynamic sequence, finishing with Yin to close.
Suitable for all levels, to those looking for inversions and tricky transitions.
Booking available now on our Workshops & Events page.

Progression?? No blocks under my shoulders! I’ve been practicing this in parks quite a lot so maybe that’s helped.
Sunday evening filled with home cooked food from husband, story-time and cuddles with baby and a scratch made peach crumble over 2 episodes of stranger things. My heart is very full.
My loungewear of American Apparel shorts and nerdy zombie t-shirt only make me feel more like the 80’s child that I apparently can’t escape.
I’ll be covering Ramila’s meditation class tomorrow 7pm, I promise I won’t make you do this.

What a fantastic two hour workshop taught by upside down expert Mirabelle (@lemirabellier )
From finger waves, to body conditioning and I’m sure at one point body popping (!) we learned to strengthen our core, find our line and most importantly had fun upside down.
Thank you thank you, what fun!

Spaces still left this Saturday! June 29th 2-4pm with Mirabelle Gremaud - £25
Join artist and performer Mirabelle who has adopted a unique discipline that involves elements from circus, acrobatics, contortion and hand-balancing in this exciting inversions workshop.
For those looking to work on inversions in their practice, the session starts with an intensive warm-up, testing endurance, using strength, explosivity, flow and flexibility. The idea of the training is to challenge the body and the mind, and focus on strenghening and protecting the muscles used for handstands, bridges, and all types of inversions.
Book on the website, I’ll see you there on the mat as a student! I’m really looking forward to it.

Happy International Yoga Day! On the Summer Solstice too, how serendipitous.
To mark this day I’m doing a little promotion and giveaway. As one of the definitions of yoga is to “find a comfortable seat” (to meditate!) I’ve lowered our meditation class price from now until the end of July to £6, that’s an amazing half price for you to enjoy and explore mediation with Ramila every Monday at 7pm. Never tried to mediate before? That’s okay, Ramila will help guide you to quiet the mind. We never find time for stillness these day, and being in London - and from Hong Kong - I can’t emphasise how important that is for your wellbeing.
If you have a 5 Class Pass with us, you can take this class twice for 1 class credit. Amazing!
ALSO I’ll be gathering names of students to this class from now and putting them into a hat, and at the end of the month some lucky person will take home this gorgeous Yogamatters Meditation Cushion! Which you can see if you swipe right. ➡️ And as it’s the Summer Solstice I’ll be seeing some of you soon for some fiery meditative practice tonight!
With love ✨
